Citizenship

Citizenship

To become a Canadian Citizen, you must meet the following requirements

    • be a permanent resident
    • have lived in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years (1,095 days)
    • have filed your taxes, if you need to
    • pass a citizenship test
    • prove your language skills in English or French

There may be other or different requirements that apply to your situation. For example there are different requirements for minor (under the age of 18) and for current or former Canadian Armed Forces Member (CAF). Further, there may be situations that can prevent you from becoming a Canadian Citizen.

If you are applying for Citizenship, regardless of your age, you must have a Permanent Resident (PR) Status in Canada. However, you can apply with an expired PR Card.
